Be careful. The administration has geared up to conduct the festival of Holi with peace and brotherhood in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. To prevent any possible dispute, about 10 mosques, including the historic Jama Masjid of Sambhal, have been completely covered with huge tarpaulins. This step has been taken especially for those mosques which fall on the way of Holi Chaupai (procession). Actually, two separate Holi processions are to take place in front of Jama Masjid. In the past years, a situation of tension had arisen in the area due to paint being splattered on a mosque. Learning from this bitter experience, the police and district administration have already taken preventive action this time. According to officials, along with placing tarpaulin on the walls of the mosques, special coating has also been done at some places so that color stains do not occur. Heavy police force is deployed to maintain law and order in the city and constant surveillance is being done in sensitive areas. The aim of this initiative of the administration is to ensure that the color of the festival is not disturbed and mutual harmony is maintained.
