Nowadays the priority of players has changed to participate in T20 leagues happening around the world and earn money. Players from countries like West Indies and New Zealand are rejecting the country’s central contract so that there is no pressure on them to participate in foreign T20 leagues. In this regard, Afghanistan Cricket Board has now taken a big decision. Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday at the ACB Headquarters in Kabul. During this period, ACB has introduced a new policy, under which players will be able to participate in only three international leagues every year. Additionally, they will also play in the five-team franchise-based T20 league across the board, which will begin in the UAE in October 2026. The purpose of this decision is to manage the workload of the players and ensure their best performance for national duty.

Now players will be allowed to participate in only three more international leagues every year along with the Afghanistan Premier League (APL). The purpose of this move is to manage the workload and ensure the best performance for national duty.” In the meeting, ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf, ACB CEO Naseem Khan, Board Member and Chancellor of Kardan University Ahmed Khalid Hatim, and Board Member and ACCI Head Khan Jan Alokozai attended. This decision of ACB may affect the financial condition of players like Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who are in high demand in franchise leagues around the world. Rashid, the highest wicket taker in T20 cricket, is currently the captain of MI Cape Town in SA20. He is also a key player for MI’s other franchises, such as MI Emirates (ILT20), MI New York (MLC), and Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
