GuwahatiA hospitality services company from Assam has won the catering contract for India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train. With this, it has become the first hospitality service company in the North East to offer its special dishes in this premium overnight service. Guwahati-based Mayfair Spring Valley Resort said on Saturday that it has partnered with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) as the official caterer of this train. According to a statement, under this arrangement, passengers will be served traditional dishes of West Bengal and Assam, which will be prepared from locally sourced ingredients. The menu includes regional sweets like Basanti Pulao, Chholar and Moong Dal, Chhanar (Paneer) and Dhokar Dalna, Assamese Joha Rice, Mati Mohor and Masoor Dal, Seasonal Vegetable Bhaji and Sandesh, Coconut Barfi and Rasgulla.

What to eat in Vande Bharat Sleeper

The resort said the menu has been tailored to suit overnight trips. It focuses on vegetarian food with less spices, seasonal products and traditional methods of cooking. Ratan Sharma, Managing Director, Mayfair Spring Valley Resort, said, ‘Each dish has been specially crafted to reflect the authentic taste of Bengal and Assam, keeping in mind the contemporary food preferences.’ Ratan Sharma said the aim is to connect travelers with the culture through food and provide a memorable experience. Howrah-Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper train will cover a distance of about 1,000 kilometres. It will have a total of 16 fully air conditioned coaches including First AC, Second AC and Third AC, with a seating/sleeping capacity of approximately 823 passengers.
