New Delhi. The Supreme Court has made a very strict comment on the rapidly increasing cases of digital fraud in the country, calling it dacoity or robbery. The court said that till now an amount of more than Rs 54,000 crore has been withdrawn through cyber fraud, which shows a very serious situation. The Supreme Court has directed the Central Government to formally implement the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) prepared by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) across the country, so that digital fraud can be effectively controlled.
The court also made it clear that the possibility of negligence of banks or collusion of officials in cases of digital fraud cannot be ruled out. The Supreme Court asked the RBI and banks to ensure timely and strict action in such cases. During the hearing, the court told that RBI has already prepared an SOP, under which there is a provision for immediate action like putting the debit card on temporary hold if there is a suspicion of cyber fraud. Its purpose is to immediately prevent losses caused by fraud.
