India’s opening batsman Abhishek Sharma has been discharged from the hospital but there is uncertainty about his playing in the important T20 World Cup group match against Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo. Abhishek, who was suffering from stomach infection related problem, had to be admitted to the hospital for two days after complaining of high fever and stomach pain. He was discharged from a hospital in Delhi on Wednesday, but when the Indian team practiced at the Kotla ground on Thursday, Abhishek did not train much as he was still feeling a little weak.
Abhishek has lost weight
Abhishek has also lost some weight and in case of a serious stomach infection, it takes time to completely recover and regain the strength and stamina to play top level cricket. However, Team India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty has given a big update on his health, which can make the fans happy.
Chakraborty gave update on Abhishek’s health
Chakraborty said that Abhishek is feeling better now and feels that he can play the next match. Chakraborty said, ‘I think Abhishek will play the next match. I don’t know his condition completely, but I have talked to him, he seems to be in good condition. He also did some practice on Thursday. He told that he is in the process of making a comeback. ‘Varun Chakraborty can try some new balls against Pakistan. Varun Chakraborty also said that he can also try some new balls against Pakistan at Premadasa Stadium because the boundaries are long there. Varun took three wickets against Namibia. After working the magic of his spin, Varun said that apart from adding more variety to his bowling, he is also working towards making the existing balls more accurate. Chakraborty said that apart from bringing variety in his bowling, he has focused more on improving the existing balls. ‘Speed, spin and more rotation on the ball…’ He said, ‘I have worked on some aspects of my bowling like pace, spin and more rotation on the ball. People also work on variations but I worked on perfecting my existing balls which helped a lot. Chakraborty bowled with a long follow through (moving forward while throwing the ball) against Namibia and this spinner said that he did this to increase the speed of his balls. Worked on his follow through’ This leg spinner said, ‘I worked on my follow through so that I can bowl more quickly on the wicket. Today I bowled a googly the first ball whereas usually I start with my stock ball. Chakraborty said, ‘If you look at the matches we played, all the bilateral matches played before this World Cup were on flat pitches. It was definitely a bit of a surprise. The wicket of the first match and this wicket too. But whatever wicket we get, we have to adapt accordingly.
‘What did Chakraborty say on the match with Pakistan?
Chakravarthy also said that dew also has a role to play while bowling in the second innings in the night match and the same can be seen in India’s next match against Pakistan to be held on February 15 in Colombo. He said, ‘The role of dew is important. When you are bowling in the second innings and you have to defend the target, sometimes it is a big issue. There was a lot of dew today too but we managed well. We are also experienced because we play a lot of matches in IPL. We know how to bowl if dew comes.’ Varun aims to perform well The match against Pakistan in the 2021 World Cup had been a nightmare for Chakravarthy. India had high expectations from Chakraborty in this match, but he could not take even a single wicket and the team had to face defeat by 10 wickets. On the changes in his bowling since that match, Chakraborty said, ‘I have worked on my overspin instead of side spin and more speed and zip off the wicket. There are some variations that I have been trying for the past six years but still haven’t perfected, while others work quite quickly. It depends on the complexity of the ball. Captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is still feeling weak, indicated that his playing in the match against Pakistan could be doubtful. He said, ‘Abhishek is not completely well right now, it may take one or two matches.’ It is understood that his practice session in Colombo will give an indication of where he is in. If he bats normally for a long time in the nets then it can be considered a sign of his being fit to play. If we look at the net sessions of the Indian team in the last one year, Abhishek bats several times and in a three-hour practice session, he bats for about 75 to 90 minutes.
