
West Bengal Politics Once again the issue of migrant laborers has come into focus. Senior Congress leader and former West Bengal state president Adhir Ranjan Choudhary wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and met him. During this, he strongly raised the issue of alleged attacks and harassment on Bengali speaking migrant laborers working in different states of the country.
Adhir Ranjan Choudhary urged PM Modi to ensure the safety of migrant Bengali laborers working outside West Bengal. He warned that if timely action is not taken on this issue, a situation of communal tension and violence may arise between communities in many parts of the country. He said that this is not only a question of law and order, but also a serious issue related to social harmony.
In the letter, Adhir Ranjan alleged that administrative officials and police in many states are not able to differentiate between ‘Bangla speaking’ and ‘Bangladeshi’ people. He wrote that Bengali speaking people are put in detention centers or jail without any crime, which is against democratic values. This situation is very painful for the poor and hardworking migrant labourers.
He also cited the report of the West Bengal Migrant Welfare Board, which claimed that 1,143 complaints of harassment had been registered in the last 10 months. The special thing is that most of these cases are said to be related to BJP ruled states.
Adhir Ranjan also mentioned the incident in Sambalpur, Odisha, where a youth from Murshidabad was beaten to death on suspicion of being a Bangladeshi infiltrator. At the end, West Bengal Politics On this sensitive issue, he demanded the Prime Minister to sensitize all the state governments and take concrete steps for the safety of migrant laborers.
