Before IPL 2026, Gujarat Titans have made a major change in their team management. The franchise on Tuesday announced that former Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden has been appointed as the new batting coach of the team. Hayden, who was counted among the most dangerous openers of his era, will now be seen teaching the nuances of modern T20 batting to the batsmen of Gujarat Titans.
Great international career experience
Matthew Hayden has been one of those Australian batsmen who created tremendous pressure on the bowlers in his time. He played 273 matches in international cricket and scored more than 15 thousand runs. Hayden was also a part of the Australian team that won the ODI World Cup twice and played an important role in winning many ICC tournaments.
Hope to strengthen the team’s batting identity
Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki called this appointment an important step for the team. He said, ‘Matthew’s appointment comes at an important stage of our journey. His high-level experience and his ability to guide the younger players will help strengthen our batting identity in the coming season.
Hayden told the team’s goal
After getting the new responsibility, Matthew Hayden also expressed his views regarding the vision of the team. He said, ‘Good batting puts pressure on the opposition team, but great batting takes over the match completely. This is the standard we want to set for Gujarat Titans.
IPL experience also
Matthew Hayden has also played in IPL. He participated in 32 IPL matches and played many memorable innings with his aggressive style. His same aggressive but technically sound batting style is considered the foundation of powerplay batting in today’s T20 cricket.
Got the responsibility in place of Matthew Wade
According to the information received, Hayden has replaced Australia’s Matthew Wade in the coaching staff of the team. Wade had played the role of assistant coach of Gujarat Titans in the 2025 IPL season.
