T20 World Cup 2026: Controversy has arisen over the hosting of the T20 World Cup starting from 7 February. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has written a letter to ICC demanding that their matches should be organized outside India. Security has been cited as the main reason behind this demand, but the roots of the dispute are related to IPL and Mustafizur Rahman.
Mustafizur Rahman and IPL
This tension started when BCCI gave a big instruction to IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR had bought Bangladeshi bowler Mustafizur Rahman for Rs 9.20 crore in the mini auction last month. Due to protests in India, BCCI directed KKR to drop Mustafizur from the team. After this decision, Bangladesh took a tough stance and banned the telecast of IPL in the country and threatened not to send the team to the World Cup.
BCCI broke its silence
Now BCCI has broken its silence on this ongoing dispute with Bangladesh. Yesterday a meeting was held at the BCCI headquarters in which senior officials of the board participated. After this meeting, the Secretary while talking to the media said that Bangladesh was not the agenda of this meeting. We talked about internal matters.
Bangladesh demands matches in Sri Lanka
BCB has written an official letter to ICC for the second time, expressing concern over security in India. According to the schedule, Bangladesh has to play four group matches in India, out of which three are to be held in Kolkata and one in Mumbai. Bangladesh has demanded that all their matches be shifted to Sri Lanka.
