Delhi High Court considered the Indigo crisis as serious and questioned the government and DGCA. The court said that this is not just a problem of stranded passengers but an issue affecting the economy. The court asked for immediate steps to be taken for compensation of passengers stranded at airports and sought details of action taken against those responsible.
Questions asked to government and DGCA
The court asked who was responsible for this situation and why there was an abnormal increase in ticket prices. The government said that there was already a plan to implement FDTL, but during this time a crisis arose due to shortage of staff. The court questioned DGCA as to why the airline was given exemption and why sufficient pilots were not recruited.
Failure of the airline, DGCA and government
Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said that the IndiGo crisis is a collective failure of the airline, DGCA and the government. He said the DGCA issued instructions on rest for flight crews but did not monitor it. The airline applied for additional routes in the winter season, while not planning to increase capacity.
Court’s message and further action
The High Court clarified that it is necessary to fix compensation for the passengers and accountability of those responsible. The government, DGCA and airlines will now have to take concrete steps to improve the situation and prevent such crises from arising in future.
