Yesterday i.e. on 6 February 2026, a great match of the Under-19 World Cup was played, where the teams of India and England were face to face. Batting first, the Indian team scored a huge score of 411 runs like a mountain. Despite the brilliant performance of the Indian bowlers, the England team failed to achieve this target, as a result of which India defeated England by 100 runs and won the Under-19 World Cup title for the sixth time. After this historic victory, all eyes were on the prize money given by ICC, but Team India was given only the trophy. ICC has given a big reason behind not giving prize money.
Why did ICC not give prize money?
The main reason for ICC not giving prize money after the title win of Indian Under-19 team is that ICC sees this tournament as a ‘development program’ for skill development and mentorship of young players. According to the ICC, a part of the ICC revenue is already given to all the participating countries as funds for their cricket development. This tournament is also considered a part of it, hence ICC considers giving separate prize money as double prize money and that is why only the trophy was given to Team India.
Players’ eyes are on BCCI
After not receiving prize money from ICC, now all the players’ eyes are on BCCI. It is being speculated that BCCI may soon make a big announcement regarding prize money for Team India players. Let us tell you that in the year 2022, when the Indian Under-19 team won the World Cup under the captaincy of Yash Dhool, BCCI had given a reward of Rs 40 lakh to each player and Rs 25 lakh to each member of the support staff.
