Australia’s legendary cricketer Damien Martyn has been discharged from the hospital. He was suffering from meningitis and was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. He was in induced coma for the first two-three days in the hospital. His close friend and great wicketkeeper batsman Adam Gilchrist looked very excited when he told this news during the live coverage of the Ashes match in Sydney. Mark Waugh, who has played with Martin, has called it a miracle. Millions of cricket fans were praying for Damien Martin and finally their prayers bore fruit. Gilchrist announced his discharge from hospital during live coverage of the Ashes. “Great news,” he said during Kayo Sports’ live Ashes coverage. He has been discharged from the hospital.
Gilchrist, on behalf of Martin’s family, expressed gratitude to those who prayed for the former cricketer. He said, ‘It will take more time for him to recover completely but it is wonderful that he is home now. His family has thanked everyone for their support. During the same show, former Australian batsman Mark Waugh called Damien Martyn’s discharge from the hospital a miracle. Waugh said, ‘It is actually a kind of miracle. He was looking very bad when he was in the ICU.’ 54 year old Damien Martyn has been known as a brilliant batsman. His average in tests is 46.37. Darwin-born Martin made his Test debut at the age of 21 in the 1992–93 series against the West Indies. He had replaced Dean Jones. At the age of 23, he also captained Western Australia. Damien Martyn has scored 13 centuries in Tests. His highest score came against New Zealand in 2005 when he scored 165 runs. Martin played his last Test match at the Adelaide Oval in the 2006–07 Ashes. After that he started doing commentary. Martin has played 208 ODI matches in his career in which he scored runs at an excellent average of 40.8. He was part of the World Cup winning teams in 1999 and 2003. In the 2003 final, he scored an unbeaten 88 against India with a broken finger. He was also part of the Australian team that won the Champions Trophy in 2006.
