Panaji. Goa Police has said that the nightclub owners fleeing the country to Thailand shows their intention to avoid police investigation. At least 25 people died in the fire at the nightclub. The incident occurred after Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, owners of Delhi-based Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, fled to Phuket on an IndiGo flight about six hours after the fire broke out.
Deputy Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer Nilesh Rane said that after contacting the Mumbai-based Immigration Bureau, it was found that both the accused had boarded the flight (from New Delhi to Phuket) at 5:30 am on December 7, i.e. immediately after the incident. This reveals their intention to avoid police investigation. The news of IndiGo flight cancellations comes at a time when large-scale flight cancellations across India are causing a lot of inconvenience to passengers, with thousands of flights canceled at several airports this week. This issue is resonating everywhere from streets to Parliament.
The investigating officer said the police are working with the Interpol department of the CBI to nab the two brothers. Rane said that Goa Police has taken further steps to coordinate with the Interpol department of CBI to arrest both Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra as soon as possible.
