BJP President Election 2026: The picture regarding the election of the new national president of Bharatiya Janata Party is almost clear. Acting National President Nitin Nabin will file his nomination on Monday, January 19, 2026, while the name of the new National President will be formally announced on January 20. Chief Ministers, State Presidents and senior leaders of all BJP ruled states will be present on this important occasion.
According to the information, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will become the proposers of Nitin Nabin. Notification regarding the national president election has been issued on Friday. In this election, 5708 voters of the party will participate in the voting process, who are part of the Electoral College made up of National and State Council members.
If Nitin Nabin is elected the national president of BJP, he will be the youngest national president to reach this post. It is noteworthy that he was appointed the working national president of BJP on 15 December 2025 itself. Since then, speculations about his name being approved had intensified, which has now turned into a formal process.
The proposed tenure of Nitin Nabin as National President will be till January 2029. Since Lok Sabha elections are also to be held this year, the possibility of extension of his tenure is also not being ruled out.

45 year old Nitin Nabin is currently the Road Construction Minister in the Bihar government. He has been elected MLA from Bankipur Assembly seat for five consecutive times in 2006, 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025. His father Kishore Sinha has also been counted among the senior leaders of BJP.
According to the BJP constitution, a candidate for the post of National President must be a primary member of the party for at least 15 years and be a proposer of 20 members of the Electoral College. Under party rules, any leader can remain the national president for a maximum of two terms i.e. six years. According to party sources, Nitin Nabin’s name will be officially announced soon.
