Delhi. When the name came before the presidential election, he remained silent. When it came to making him the Vice President, he was not ready. Now Nitish Kumar, who was the Chief Minister of Bihar for 20 years, is ready to become a Rajya Sabha MP! This is a shocking decision, information about which he himself gave through social media. After heavy pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party, he has agreed to return to his 37-year-old path. So, is he going to get any big position in the Narendra Modi government of the country or is he just coming out to play the last innings of politics by becoming an MP?
Nitish is having as much power as the Deputy Prime Minister
The Narendra Modi government at the Center is stable thanks to the Lok Sabha MPs of Chandra Babu Naidu and Nitish Kumar. In this, the way Nitish Kumar has to leave the post of Chief Minister and go to Rajya Sabha, it may be necessary for the Narendra Modi government to have some big plan for him. When the offer of the post of Vice President reached Nitish Kumar, he was not ready. Now perhaps it may not be in his wish to retire after becoming a Rajya Sabha MP. If Nitish has taken an unexpected decision, can he get something surprising in future? In response to this question, Sunil Kumar Sinha, President of Chanakya School of Political Rights and Research, says – “That he agreed to leave the CM’s chair is very shocking. But, it will not be very surprising if now he is made something like the Deputy Prime Minister. He has been a cabinet minister in the Atal Bihar Vajpayee government and is senior to almost all the ministers of the current central government. Therefore, something good must happen.”
When did Nitish become MP for the first time, when did he lose the elections?
Nitish Kumar was first elected on 28 November 1989 from Barh parliamentary constituency of Patna district. Then, his tenure as MP was from 2 December 1989 to 13 March 1991. Meanwhile, in April 1990, he was made the Union Minister of State for Agriculture in the VP Singh government. It was a period of upheaval in the Lok Sabha. The VP Singh government could not prove majority in the House and Nitish Kumar’s tenure as Union Minister of State also ended on 10 November 1990. After this, Chandrashekhar became PM with the help of Congress, but in 1991, Congress withdrew its support and Chandrashekhar was relieved from the post and the Lok Sabha was dissolved on 13 March 1991.
Then in 1991, Nitish Kumar became MP due to flood. Nitish Kumar, the then Janata Dal general secretary and deputy leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, was made the chairman of the Agriculture Committee by the then PV Narasimha Rao led central government on April 8, 1993. When this term of Lok Sabha was over, in 1996, Nitish Kumar again became MP due to flood. This time, Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the Prime Minister on 16 May 1996, although this government lasted only for seven days. For the second time, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee became Prime Minister on March 15, 1998, Samata Party was also among the 41 parties in the largest alliance.
Nitish Kumar was made the Union Minister of Railways and Surface Transport. He resigned from the post of minister after the rail accident in Gasal in August 1999. Then after the Kargil war, when Lok Sabha elections were held in 1999, BJP emerged as the largest party. For the first time, there was a BJP led government for five years. In this also Nitish was the Union Minister. After that, Nitish Kumar lost the 2004 Lok Sabha elections due to flood and after this, since 2005, the politics of Bihar remained around Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister. The situation remains the same till today. Nitish Kumar, who has become the Chief Minister ten times, is now going to Delhi for Rajya Sabha on the 37 year old route.
