New DelhiPrime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government over a program organized in West Bengal. He alleged that the honor of President Draupadi Murmu was compromised and it was an insult not only to the President but also to the Constitution of the country. It is also an insult to the great tradition of democracy. The Prime Minister said that President Draupadi Murmu had gone to West Bengal to attend a major cultural festival of the Santhal community. But instead of giving him due respect in this important and sacred program, TMC boycotted it. PM Modi said that the President herself comes from the tribal community and she has always been concerned about the development and welfare of the tribal community. Despite this, the state government did not show seriousness towards the event. According to the Prime Minister, the state government left the event in complete disarray. He said that this incident is not only an insult to the President, but it is also a disrespect to the Constitution of India and its basic spirit. He further said that in the great tradition of democracy, the post of President is a symbol of highest honor. In such a situation, it is everyone’s responsibility to rise above any political differences and maintain the dignity of this post. Accusing the TMC government of being immersed in the arrogance of power, PM Modi said that such incidents weaken democratic values.
