BMC Election Result Update: The counting of votes for Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections has not been completed yet, but the political atmosphere has heated up. Sanjay Raut, senior leader and MP of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) in Mumbai, has raised many serious allegations while raising questions on the Election Commission itself. He said during a press conference that huge irregularities have come to light in the election process, which are extremely worrying for democracy.
Sanjay Raut alleges that wherever Shiv Sena (UBT) was in a strong position, names of thousands of voters were found missing from the voter list. He claimed that this problem was most visible in areas supported by Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS and Congress. Raut said that removing names from the voter list is a direct violation of the right to vote.
Allegations of EVM malfunction and ignoring complaints
The Shiv Sena (UBT) MP also alleged that EVM machines malfunctioned in many wards, but despite complaints, the election authorities did not take any concrete action on it. He claims that at some places voters were voting for any party, but in the EVMs the votes were being recorded only on the lotus symbol of BJP.
Questions on code of conduct and use of money
Sanjay Raut said that during the elections, money was distributed openly and attempts were made to influence the voting under the pressure of power. He alleged that despite the implementation of the code of conduct, meetings between municipal corporation officials and BJP leaders took place, which is a matter of serious concern for the democratic process.
