New Delhi. India is continuously increasing its military strength. After Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces are being continuously upgraded. The announcement of Air Force and Navy is very important in modern warfare. This has been confirmed in everything from Israel-Iran to Russia-Ukraine war. In such a situation, India has more focus on Navy along with Air Force.
In this respect, Wednesday proved to be historic. The second MH-60R Romeo multi-role helicopter squadron was commissioned at INS Hansa Naval Base in Goa in the presence of Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. With this, India has joined the list of those World Powers countries, which have the capability to destroy submarines underwater through helicopters.
According to media reports, the commissioning of Romeo helicopter will increase the strength of the Indian Navy manifold. This is an important step towards the modernization of the Indian Navy. Out of the 24 MH-60R helicopters purchased from America in 2020, the second entire squadron is now ready. The first squadron INAS334 was commissioned at Kochi in March 2024. Due to these helicopters, there has been a huge increase in the Navy’s anti-submarine warfare, surface attack, surveillance and search-rescue capabilities.
Romeo helicopters will prove effective against Chinese Navy activities and submarine deployment in the Indian Ocean region. Naval officials say that these helicopters can track and attack enemy submarines from a distance. This will increase the security of Indian ships at sea manifold. Let us tell you that in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack in May 2025, India had launched Operation Sindoor, in which missile and air strikes were carried out on terrorist targets in Pakistan and PoK. At the same time, an Indian aircraft carrier was present in the Arabian Sea at a short distance from Karachi. It was also told that this aircraft carrier was in war-ready mode. Seeing the situation, Pakistan had surrendered. Now the Navy is further strengthening its preparations with these modern helicopters.
According to the information, MH-60R helicopters equipped with advanced weapons, modern sensors and new avionics system have been designed to deal with both conventional and asymmetric threats. These helicopters enhance the Navy’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities, surface attack missions, surveillance and search-and-rescue operations, making them one of the most versatile platforms in the fleet. These helicopters have already been fully integrated into the Naval fleet and have proven their operational capability on several occasions. The MH-60R helicopter is also capable of firing torpedoes, missiles and advanced precision strike rocket systems. Its self-protection system includes chaff and infrared flares, which can be fired automatically when danger is detected.
