SC on UGC New Rules: The Supreme Court has given a big and important order. While staying the new rules of UGC, the top court has made it clear that the rules of 2012 will remain applicable till the hearing of the case is completed. The court also said that there is a possibility of misuse of the new rules. The next hearing date in this case has been fixed for May 19.

Supreme Court’s strict remarks during the hearing

While hearing the new rules of UGC, the Supreme Court expressed deep concern over the increasing caste division in the society. The court said that even after 75 years of independence, we have not been able to free ourselves from the walls of caste. Such decisions take the country backwards. The court also remarked that India should not get into a situation where there were separate schools for different communities, as the US once had separate schools for white children.

Notice issued to central government

In the case of SC on UGC New Rules, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government. The court believes that the new caste related rules of UGC are not clear. The Court said that due to the vague language of the rules, they can be misused. There should be unity in educational institutions, because if an environment of discrimination is created there, it will become difficult to maintain social balance in the country.

Challenge given to section 3C

Petitioner’s lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain said that he has challenged Section 3C of the UGC notification. His argument is that in this, only the cases related to SC, ST and OBC have been considered as caste discrimination while keeping the general category out, which is not in accordance with Article 14 of the Constitution.
