Veteran batsman Virat Kohli has been in amazing form for some time. The 37-year-old cricketer has almost put an end to the ongoing debate over his ODI future. He has scored five consecutive 50-plus scores for the Indian team since his return in October last year. He recently played a brilliant inning of 93 runs in India vs New Zealand 1st ODI in Vadodara. India had a thrilling victory in this match by four wickets. Former Indian spinner Ashwin has sung an ode in praise of Kohli. Regarding Kohli’s mindset, he said that he is enjoying the game like his old days. Ashwin feels that Kohli currently seems to have a childish attitude towards batting.
‘Nothing is going on in Kohli’s mind’
Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “It seems that nothing is going on in his mind. You asked me what has he changed? He has not changed anything. He is not thinking about anything. He has decided that he just wants to enjoy his cricket. It seems that he is playing with the batting attitude that he had as a child and also with so many years of experience.” Kohli became the second highest run scorer in international cricket in Vadodara. He overtook Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (28016). Sachin Tendulkar (34357) is ahead of Kohli.
‘He has been Mr. Consistent for India’
Apart from Kohli, the former spinner praised vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who made a comeback in the first ODI and scored 49 runs in 47 balls. He hit four fours and one six. Middle-order batsman Iyer was away from international cricket since October due to a spleen injury. Ashwin said, “We know that Shreyas has been Mr Consistent for India in ODI cricket. His dismissal was not at all like Shreyas. He never leaves a game like this. He usually returns after finishing the match. However, it is understandable that he is making a comeback and Kyle Jamieson bowled a good ball.”
