There are teams from England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. In the Super Eight round, one team from each group will play one match each against three other teams in its group. In such a situation, the teams of India and Pakistan will not clash with each other since they are in two different groups. The top two teams from both the groups in the Super-Eight will qualify for the semi-finals. However, India’s clash with Pakistan is possible in the semi-finals. If India and Pakistan finish in the top two positions in their respective groups, then there could be a clash in the semi-finals. Let us know how-
How can India and Pakistan clash?
Mathematics of clash in semi-finals-
The format of the semi-finals is based on the crossover system-
Top team of Group-1 vs second place team of Group-2.
Top team of Group-2 vs second place team of Group-1.
How will the India-Pakistan semi-final happen?
first position
India remained first in its group.
Pakistan finished second in their group.
In such a situation, both will face each other in the semi-finals.
second position
Pakistan remained first in its group.
India finished second in their group.
Even then a clash in the semi-finals is possible.
When will the semi-finals not take place?
If both teams finish first in their respective groups.
If both teams finish second in their respective groups.
In such a situation they will not play each other in the semi-finals.
Being in the same position will open the way for a clash in the finals.
If both teams finish in the same position in the Super-8 (e.g. both first or both second) they will play separate semi-finals. If both win their respective semi-finals, then there can be a great clash between India vs Pakistan in the final and if this happens then there will be a super dose of entertainment for the fans and there will not be an inch of seat available in the stadium. Also, the fans will not want to move away from TV. The atmosphere of 2007 will be created and nothing can be better than this. Semi-final schedule and venue, conditions
The first semi-final will be held on March 4 and the second semi-final will be held on March 5.
Even if there is a semi-final match between India and Pakistan, the match will be held at Premadasa in Colombo.
If Pakistan plays the semi-final against someone else and India plays against someone else, then Pakistan will play in Colombo and India will play in Wankhede, Mumbai.
If Pakistan does not qualify and the last-four teams are some other team, then the semi-final to be held in Colombo will also be shifted to India. Then the first semi-final will be held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
If the teams of India and Pakistan reach the final (ie playing semi-finals against different teams) then the final will also be held in Colombo. If Pakistan does not reach then the final can be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is possible only when both are at the same position in their respective Super-8 groups, like, first-first or second-second.
The twist is yet to come in the picture, my friend!
That means there is still hope for cricket fans. If both teams continue to win consistently and the equation is right, the T20 World Cup 2026 could see another high-voltage India-Pakistan encounter.
