Rajkot of Gujarat. The Municipal Corporation is running a campaign to remove illegal settlements built on the banks of Aji River. Officials said on Tuesday that 1,300 houses have been demolished as part of the operation. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Monday launched a drive to remove over 1,400 illegal settlements in a 2.5-km stretch of Jangleshwar located along the river bank amid tight security.

About 1350 houses were demolished

As of 2 pm on Tuesday, the RMC has demolished around 1,350 houses along the Aji river. Municipal Corporation chief Tushar Sumera told PTI that demolition of multi-storey buildings and luxurious bungalows is taking time as they cannot be demolished with earth digging machines. He further informed that apart from more than 65 earth digging machines, extra-large hydraulic excavators have also been deployed to demolish the luxurious bungalows. The demolition work is being carried out amid tight security, with over 2,500 police personnel deployed including local police, surveillance teams, drone surveillance units, Special Operations Group personnel, Quick Response Team (QRT) and State Reserve Police Force.
