Amid the rapidly changing situation in Iran and the Gulf region after the attacks by America and Israel, India has appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and urged to respect the sovereignty of all nations. The first reaction of the Indian government has come after the latest attacks by America and Israel on Iran. The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Saturday. The statement said that India expresses deep concern over the recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region.

What did the Foreign Ministry say?
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in the statement that it appeals to all parties to exercise restraint, avoid escalating tensions and give priority to the safety of civilians. The ministry said that dialogue and diplomatic path should be adopted to reduce tensions and resolve core issues. India said that it is important to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. Government of India missions in the region are in touch with Indian citizens and have issued appropriate advisories. Indian citizens have been asked to remain alert, remain in touch with the missions and follow local security guidelines.

Big challenge for India too
Attack on Iran can also pose big challenges for India. If the war continues for a long time, India may face difficulties on many fronts including energy security and economic stability. India imports a major part of its crude oil needs from Iran’s neighboring countries. About 40 to 60 percent of the country’s crude oil comes through the Strait of Hormuz. If there is any kind of military blockade here, the supply of oil may be disrupted. More than 80 lakh non-resident Indians live in Gulf countries. Their security and their evacuation if needed will be a big challenge for the government.
