New Delhi. Amid Iranian attacks in Oman waters, a horrific accident occurred on the Indian ship MKD VOM, in which at least three Indians died and more than 20 were injured. The accident occurred 52 nautical miles away from Muscat on the Marshall Islands on a Marshall Islands flagged ship. The other crew members were evacuated to safety by the Panama flagged commercial vessel MV Sand.

The reason behind this attack is believed to be Iran’s attack on Oman’s maritime border and a step taken in response to the recent attacks by America and Israel. The Royal Navy of Oman has started monitoring the affected tanker and ships passing through the maritime areas have been alerted.

This attack caused panic in the global oil market. The price of US crude rose 7.6 percent to $ 72.12 per barrel and Brent crude rose 8.6 percent to $ 79.11 per barrel. Natural gas futures prices in Europe jumped more than 40 percent.

The Indian Mission in Oman is in constant touch with the local authorities and efforts are underway to trace all the missing crew members. This attack not only challenges the security of Indian citizens but also has a serious impact on the Middle East and global energy security.
