IPL vs PSL: Whenever there is a comparison between cricket leagues around the world, the names of IPL and PSL come first. But when it comes to ‘money’ and ‘market value’, IPL is a mountain in front of which PSL appears to be a small mound. Recently, the sales figures of new PSL teams have once again brought this gap in front of the world.
5 players vs 2 teams
Pakistan Cricket Board has completed the process of adding two new teams for the upcoming season of PSL. Earlier there were 6 teams in this league, which has now increased to 8. According to reports, the total cost of these two new teams is so low that the total salary of the top 5 players of IPL is much more than that.
After the IPL 2026 mega auction and retention, the total annual salary of the top 5 players falls between ₹110 crore to ₹125 crore. At the same time, the total sum of annual franchise fees of the two new PSL teams has not even crossed the figure of ₹ 100 crore.
Why such a big difference?
The difference between IPL and PSL is not just about the game, but about broadcasting rights and market value. The media rights of IPL have been sold for around ₹48,000 crore, whereas the rights of PSL are not even 1% of this. Big companies around the world spend crores of rupees to associate with IPL teams, whereas Pakistan does not get big sponsors. All the big players of the world participate in IPL, due to which its viewership becomes global.
