
Mumbai Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad launched a massive search operation in two districts in view of intelligence inputs about suspected terrorist activities. ATS has raided 21 locations in Yavatmal and Ahilyanagar districts and detained several suspects for questioning.
Actually, ATS had received intelligence that efforts were being made to activate some youth by contacting terrorist organizations. The ATS searched more than 20 locations in the two districts and detained more than a dozen suspects in the raids, which were launched around midnight, an official said.
ATS conducted search operations at 14 places in Pusad and Umarkhed and seven places in Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) in Yavatmal district. A senior police officer said that based on specific intelligence received about radicalization of youth in the state, the ATS along with the district police team launched the operation in Pusad and Umarkhed towns of Yavatmal.
The official said searches are underway at 14 locations, including houses, offices and other places linked to the suspects, and teams have seized incriminating documents, mobile phones, electronic devices and examined CCTV footage.
He said that ATS has recovered objectionable documents during the search. The official said the suspects are being interrogated and no one has been arrested yet. He further said that a large number of police officers and staff have been deployed for this operation. The officer further said that similar raids were conducted at seven places in Ahilyanagar district of central Maharashtra and police have recovered incriminating material from the suspects. The suspects are being interrogated.
