Ahmedabad. Three schools in Ahmedabad received bomb threats. Joint Police Commissioner of Ahmedabad Crime Branch said that police teams reached the respective schools. On Wednesday morning, many schools in Ahmedabad received bomb threat emails causing panic and students were evacuated from the schools. Police, fire service and bomb disposal teams conducted a massive search operation across the city.
According to media reports, police said that the schools which received threatening emails include Zydus School of Excellence, Zebar School for Children, Maharaja Agrasen Vidyalaya and DAV International School in Vejalpur-Jeevraj Park. Soon after, similar emails were reported from Nirman School, James Genesis International School, Divine Child School and Avishkar School.
According to officials, the first alert was received around 10 am, after which police teams reached the schools. As a precautionary measure, Special Operations Group, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, Dog Squad and Fire Department personnel were deployed, while fire tenders and ambulances were kept on standby. Police sources said the emails had come from a foreign email address on Wednesday morning. The subject line of the email contained a bomb threat, which claimed that the blasts would take place at around 1.11 pm.
The email message referred to the alleged blasts in Ahmedabad and contained inflammatory political and extremist language as well as threats against prominent public figures. The email warned of consequences and sought to instill fear by linking the threat to international political issues. Officials said the contents of the email were being taken seriously, although its authenticity could not be established. A senior police officer said the language used in the mail was worrying and its aim was to spread panic. We are analyzing the technical details of the email to trace its source. As a precautionary measure, security has been beefed up at schools and other sensitive places in Ahmedabad and additional police patrolling has been done.
