Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh has expressed his displeasure over Shubman Gill’s exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad. He said that the selectors are not able to support their vice-captain. During this, Yograj also mentioned former World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev.
Yograj got angry after Gill’s drop
While talking on Ravi Bisht’s YouTube channel, Yograj Singh said, ‘Shubman Gill is the vice-captain. What is the reason for dropping him from the team? Was his bat dropped when he did not bat in 4-5 innings? There have been many players in Indian cricket who have performed well only 10 times out of 100 opportunities. He further said, ‘But even then he played. I have already told you what could have been the reason. Young batsman Abhishek Sharma came a few years ago. If he doesn’t last four innings, will you drop him too?
Yograj mentioned Kapil Dev
During this, Yograj also mentioned former Indian captain Kapil Dev. He said, ‘Let me give you the example of the great Kapil Dev. When we went on the tour of Pakistan, Bishan Singh Bedi was the captain at that time. Despite consistently poor performance with ball and bat, Kapil Dev got opportunities. Bishan Singh Bedi also took him on the next England tour.
Gill is not included in the T20 World Cup team
It is noteworthy that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Team India for the T20 World Cup starting from February 7 this year. Shubman Gill is not included in this team. It is believed that his recent performance in the T20 format became a problem for him. Since his return to the team during the Asia Cup, he has scored only 291 runs in 15 matches. His strike rate has been 137.26, which does not include a single half-century or century. Even in the recently concluded T20 series against South Africa, Gill’s bat remained silent and he scored only 32 runs in three matches, which further increased the pressure on his selection.
