The cricketers of Bangladesh have already suffered the blow of being deprived of playing in the World Cup 2026, on top of that their board itself has made fun of them in a way. Bangladesh Cricket Board official M Nazmul Islam, against whom the cricketers had launched a front, raised the flag of rebellion, even boycotted some BPL matches, has now been reinstated by the BCB on the post of Chief of the Finance Committee. For Bangladeshi cricketers, this is nothing less than sprinkling salt on the wound.
Manipur needs 668 runs to win
Nazmul Islam is the one who called former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal an ‘agent of India’ as he advised the BCB to think with a cool head instead of taking any decision emotionally regarding the T20 World Cup. Iqbal had said that the decision would impact Bangladesh cricket for the next 10 years. Then many Bangladeshi cricketers had criticized the Islam comment made on Tamim Iqbal.
Nazmul Islam had ridiculed Bangladeshi cricketers
Nazmul Islam not only insulted Tamim Iqbal but also went a step further and ridiculed all the cricketers of Bangladesh. He had then said that if Bangladesh does not participate in the World Cup, the board will not give any compensation to the players for the loss. He did not stop here. He even said why should the players get compensation? They have not justified the support they have received till now and have not been able to win even a single ICC tournament. From ban to suspension in the next World Cup, ICC can take these actions against Bangladesh. Nazmul Islam had said that Bangladesh Cricket Board spends crores of taka on the players but when they perform poorly, no one asks them to return the money. Therefore there is no question of giving compensation to the players. Enraged by this statement of Islam, Bangladeshi cricketers revolted.
Then Bangladeshi cricketers revolted
Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh had gone on strike demanding a public apology from Nazmul Islam and his removal from the post. The players had announced to stay away from cricket till Islam was dismissed and started it with the boycott of Bangladesh Premier League. ICC’s big decision, now Scotland will play T20 World Cup 2026 in place of Bangladesh. BCB, shocked by the rebellious attitude of the cricketers, then hastily ‘dismissed’ Nazmul Islam from the post of Chief of the Finance Committee. Distanced himself from Islam’s statement while supporting the cricketers. After that the cricketers announced to end the boycott and play BPL matches.
If Namjul does not resign…Bangladeshi cricketers rebel, threaten boycott
BCB had bowed down to the rebellion then, showed defiance as soon as BPL ended
Now BCB has decided to reinstate M Nazmul Islam to the post of head of its finance committee, showing contempt to the cricketers. According to Bangladesh media reports, BCB has said that the reply given by Nazmul to the show cause notice is satisfactory. Now it will be interesting to see what stance Bangladeshi cricketers take on this ‘betrayal’ of Bangladesh Cricket Board. Bangladesh Premier League is over. Its final was held on January 23, so now the cricketers do not even have a chance to boycott BPL.
