Washington. US President Donald Trump has made his position clear regarding Diego Garcia, a strategically important island in the Indian Ocean. President Trump has warned in strong words that he will never allow the US military presence and operations on this island to be endangered. He clarified that if any agreement is broken in the future or the security of American soldiers is compromised, then they have the full right to secure and strengthen the base militarily.
In his recent statement, President Trump said that he had a direct conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding the future of Diego Garcia Island. The island is located in the middle of the Indian Ocean and is considered an essential pillar of US national security. Trump stressed that US military bases abroad are not just physical assets, but a combination of American troop strength, modern equipment capabilities and strategic positioning that have made many operations successful over the years. Trump took a balanced stance on the recent lease agreement between the United Kingdom and Mauritius regarding the island. He said he understood Prime Minister Starmer’s position and that according to many experts, this was the best deal possible at the time. However, the President, along with diplomatic courtesy, also sent a strong message. He clearly said that if this lease deal is ever disrupted in the future or any external element threatens the American base, then they will not back down from using force.
Trump also rejected challenges and claims that often question the existence of this base in the name of human rights or the environment. He termed it as nonsense and said that he will not allow this most important military center of the world to be weakened on the basis of false claims. White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt has also confirmed this stance of the President. He said during the briefing that the US has the sovereign right to defend its assets and is fully committed to maintaining its military power in any corner of the world, including Diego Garcia. Diego Garcia is not only a hub of the Indian Ocean, it also plays a central role in maintaining US military influence in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Trump’s statement on this island, which has been embroiled in sovereignty disputes for a long time, indicates that the new US government is in no mood for any compromise in its foreign military policy. This statement of the President has sent a message in international circles that the security of Diego Garcia will remain America’s top priority.
