Indore. Instructions have once again been issued to strictly enforce the rules regarding identity verification for passengers traveling by railway. Railway Board has sent a letter to the commercial departments of all zonal railways saying that at least one person among the passengers traveling on reserved tickets must have the original identity card. If the identity card is not produced during checking, the passengers may be categorized as traveling without ticket.
In the order issued by the Railway Board on February 4, 2026, citing the guidelines already in place, it has been said that adherence to these rules should be ensured under all circumstances. The Board has instructed the ticket checking staff that there should not be any laxity in the process of identity verification during the journey. It is being told that its purpose is to stop traveling on wrong name and ticket and agents booking tickets in any name and later selling them to other people at a higher price. It has also been clarified in the order that passengers who have booked tickets under special category or quota like senior citizens, disabled, students or other concessional category, will have to carry valid documents related to their eligibility. If the passenger is unable to produce the necessary proof at the time of verification, the concession given to him will be considered invalid and action will be taken as per Railway rules.
Vigilance on border railway routes
The Railway Board has also given instructions for additional surveillance on railway routes connected to international borders. Special vigilance has been asked to check the identity of passengers traveling on routes like India-Nepal and India-Bangladesh, so that the rules can be strictly followed.
