Cricket Association of Nepal has announced its team to give place to a brand new player in the team. The team also includes a player who does not have the experience of even a single match in T20 International cricket. Off-spinner Sher Malla has got a place in Nepal’s team for the T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February-March. Nepal has also included all-rounder Baseer Ahmed in the squad, while leaving out Kushal Malla, who was part of the team in the T20 World Cup Qualifier held in October last year.

Top order batsman Rohit Paudel will be the captain of Nepal team for the second consecutive T20 World Cup. At the same time, all-rounder Deependra Singh Airi has been given the vice-captaincy. Talking about Sher Malla, he had performed brilliantly in the 2025 season of Nepal Premier League i.e. NPL, for which he has been rewarded and he has been directly included in the T20 World Cup team. Sher Malla had taken 17 wickets in NPL in ten matches at an economy rate of 6.50 and he became the highest wicket taker bowler of the season in this league. He also won the Emerging Player of the Tournament award.
The team has a good combination of strong batsman and effective all-rounder. However, the bowling will revolve around leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. NEPA will have other spin options in the form of Lalit Rajbanshi, Shermalla and Deepender Singh Airey. Whereas, Karan KC will lead the fast bowling unit. Nandan Yadav, Sompal Kami and all-rounder Gulsan Jha will also play the role of pacer. There are many all-rounders in the 15-member team.

Nepal team is part of Group C for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which contains powerful teams like West Indies and England. Apart from this, the teams of Bangladesh and Italy are also part of this group. Nepal has to play its first match against England on 8 February in Mumbai. Apart from this, on 12th February, Nepal will face Italy in Mumbai, while on 15th February, Nepal will face West Indies and on 17th February, Nepal will face Bangladesh on the same ground.
