
New Delhi. While hearing the petitions filed regarding special intensive revision of voter list in Tamil Nadu, the Supreme Court has issued important guidelines. The petitions challenged alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s process. On which the bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant has directed the Election Commission to display the list of people whose names have been included in the logical discrepancy list in the Gram Panchayat building, each subdivision office and ward offices in urban areas.
The top court said that the voters whose names appear in the list can submit the necessary documents in person or through their authorized representative within 10 days from the date of publication of the list. Brief reasons for the discrepancy will also be recorded in the list. Objections can be lodged in subdivision level offices.
The Supreme Court has also asked all district collectors to follow the instructions of the Election Commission and ensure deployment of adequate staff to conduct the SIR process smoothly. Along with this, instructions have been given to senior police officers to maintain law and order.
The court said in its order that the Director General of Police and the Commissioner of Police of Tamil Nadu should ensure that no law and order problem arises and the entire process is conducted peacefully and smoothly. Let us tell you that assembly elections will be held in Tamil Nadu this year. Election atmosphere has started in the state with 234 assembly seats. Both Congress and BJP parties have started making their strategy. Let us tell you that at present there is DMK government in Tamil Nadu, which is an ally with Congress.
