Dhaka. Violence and protests have been going on in Bangladesh for the last several days. Amidst the uproar, on the night of 18 December, a news came that Sharif Osman bin Hadi had died. This news made the situation worse. Meanwhile, a Hindu man was beaten to death on Thursday night in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh on charges of blasphemy. This incident has happened amid the ongoing unrest in the country after the assassination of youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi. According to media reports, the deceased has been identified as Dipu Chandra Das, who worked in a textile factory in Bhaluka upazila. At around 9 pm on Thursday night, the mob surrounded Das and beat him up for making derogatory statements against Prophet Mohammad. After beating him to death, the mob tied his body to a tree and set it on fire. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. According to the report, no case has been registered yet.
Usman Bin Hadi was the spokesperson of the Islamic organization Inquilab Manch in Bangladesh and was an independent candidate from Dhaka in the upcoming elections. How big Hadi’s name is in Bangladesh can be gauged from the fact that after his death, a day of national mourning has been declared in the entire country. Let us tell you that Hadi also played an important role in toppling the government of former President Sheikh Hasina in the year 2024. Apart from this, Hadi can also be called an anti-India leader. Hadi was shot last week while campaigning for parliamentary elections on February 12. Hadi’s supporters allege that his killers have fled to India and are demanding that the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh be closed until they are handed over.
Bangladesh government’s chief adviser Mohammad Yunus declared a day of state mourning on Saturday, saying Hadi’s killers would be given the harshest punishment. However, his supporters continued their protest raising anti-India slogans. They also threw bricks and stones at the residence of the Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chattogram, but could not cause any damage after police intervention. Senior Bangladeshi officials have assured the Indian Assistant High Commissioner of security.
