Agartala. People’s patience ran out in Tripura’s Jiraniya and Bodhjung Nagar areas when protesters stopped eight gas bullet tankers coming from Bangladesh. The protest with slogans of ‘Bangladeshis go back’ is not just a blockade but a strong message against the growing anti-India discourse and attacks on Hindus in the neighboring country.
In fact, after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh, experts are considering the arrival of the interim government of Mohammad Yunus as not just a change of power but the arrival of fundamentalism. Yunus’s visit to China and his statement calling Bangladesh the guardian of the Seven Sisters (North-Eastern India) is being seen as a direct challenge to India’s territorial integrity. Such a demonstration in a peaceful state like Tripura reflects India’s changing strategy and public sentiments. The protesters clearly say that the atrocities on minority Hindus in Bangladesh are no longer acceptable. Those running anti-India agenda will not be allowed to benefit from Indian resources. Threats being issued from across the border will now be responded to with ground action.
