IND vs NZ: The beginning of the ‘serious era’ for the Indian team has not been as expected. First the test series and now the defeat in the ODI series against New Zealand has raised many questions. In the final match played in Indore on Sunday, New Zealand defeated India by 41 runs and ended the drought of winning the ODI series on Indian soil after 37 years.

After the defeat, captain Shubhman Gill said, “After the first match, after being tied 1-1, the way we played – a bit disappointing. There are many areas which need improvement. There are some areas on which we have to look back, think and do better.”

“Plans were not implemented”- Gill
After losing the series, captain Shubman Gill did not take the name of any individual player, but expressed concern over the collective performance of the team. According to Gill, after the series was tied at 1-1, the spirit that was needed in the decisive match seemed to be missing.

The team repeated old mistakes at important moments, especially the early dismissal of the top-order and weak fielding cost India dearly. Gill clearly said that the team will now have to look back and improve in those areas where they are repeatedly lagging behind.

New Zealand’s ‘B-team’ showed strength
This victory of New Zealand surprised everyone because they did not have experienced players like Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra. Gill admitted that the Kiwi team’s batsmen converted their starts into big scores and they proved to be much better than India on the field.
