
New Delhi . The Supreme Court has ordered to make public the list of 1.25 crore voters in West Bengal SIR. These are those people whose names were removed from the voter list due to some discrepancy. Notice was sent even to Amartya Sen, Supreme Court raised questions on ECI’s WhatsApp functioning.
During the hearing on Monday, the Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to publish the names of 1.25 crore people against whom objection of logical discrepancy has been raised during the SIR process. These names should be published in Panchayat and ward offices. The apex court noted that notices were issued to about two crore people for verification of documents. These notices are broadly classified into three categories; the first includes mapped, unmapped and logical anomaly. The Supreme Court said that under the logical discrepancy category, the authorities have found non-match of father’s name, non-match of age of parents and difference in age of grandparents.
During the hearing, the bench of Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant, Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Joymalya Bagchi made it clear that notices have been issued to about 2 crore people for verification of documents. Of these, a large number are in the ‘logical discrepancy’ category. The Supreme Court told the Election Commission that the investigation of the people whose names have been included in the list of logical discrepancy should be done in a transparent manner, so that people do not face problems and tension. The Supreme Court said that notices have been sent to about 1.25 crore people. In these notices, things like difference in the names of parents, less age difference, more number of children have been mentioned. The Supreme Court said that the Election Commission will have to make public the list of all those people to whom notice has been given in the name of logical discrepancy.
