The Australian team is on a tour of Pakistan before the T20 World Cup 2026, where the team is going to play a 3-match T20 International series. In a way, this is Australia’s dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup. Although, the 5 players included in the T20 World Cup squad are not taking part in the series against Pakistan starting from January 29, but still the team would like to finalize its preparations. However, the surprising thing is that no one will be able to watch this series live on their TV sets in Australia. Actually, no Australian broadcaster has bought media rights for this 3-match T20 series. The first T20 match between Pakistan and Australia will be played in Lahore on January 29, but despite the tremendous ratings in the summer season in Test and T20 cricket, no broadcaster has yet taken the rights to show the series in Australia. Even today i.e. till the morning of 27th January, no deal has been made regarding broadcasting. If no deal is made at the last minute, fans of the Australian cricket team will not be able to see rising stars like Jack Edwards and Mahali Beardman live. The reason behind this is that there are no big players in the Australian team. No one wants to see players like Babar Azam in Australia. Timing is also a big problem. Tim David, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Ellis will not play in the series against Pakistan, but they are part of the T20 World Cup 2026 squad. On the other hand, an Australian television insider told Yahoo Sports Australia, “I think the Pakistan series will be a bit difficult to sell to a broadcaster, despite some obvious appeal. The matches don’t start until 10pm (AEDT) and the Australian team doesn’t have some big names, so there isn’t as much star power. Having said that, it is 2026 and sports fans are used to following their favorite teams wherever they are in the world. Hopefully something will happen at the last minute, but It doesn’t look good.”
