New DelhiThe Supreme Court has given a big verdict in the famous Porsche car accident case of Pune. The court on Tuesday granted bail to the father of a minor who is accused of causing the death of two people by driving a Porsche car under the influence of alcohol in Pune in 2024. The incident occurred on May 19, 2024, when a Porsche car, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy under the influence of alcohol, crushed two IT professionals in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area.
The accused got relief
The bench of Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan has given relief to Vishal Aggarwal. Vishal is accused of conspiring to get his blood sample changed to save his son. They wanted the medical report to confirm that alcohol was not present. The Top Court said in its decision that other co-accused in this case have already got relief. The court also observed that the accused has been in jail for the last 22 months. The bench ordered that Vishal Aggarwal be granted bail on the basis of the terms and conditions to be set by the trial court.
The government protested
Maharashtra government opposed this bail. The government argues that Vishal Aggarwal’s case is not like that of other accused, hence he should not get relief on equal basis. However, the Supreme Court has also imposed some restrictions on Vishal Aggarwal. The court has ordered him not to try to contact any witness in this case. If they violate any of the conditions, the state government can seek to cancel their bail. Along with this, the court directed the trial court to complete the hearing of this case as soon as possible.
Earlier on February 27, the Supreme Court had also granted bail to Dr. Ajay Taware, former Medical Superintendent of Sassoon General Hospital. He was accused of tampering with the blood sample. On February 2, the court had also granted bail to three other accused – Amar Satish Gaikwad, Aditya Avinash Sood and Ashish Satish Mittal. These people were in custody for about 18 months. Aditya Sood and Ashish Mittal were accused of giving their blood samples so that their children, who were present in the car at the time of the accident, could be saved.
Ten were sent to jail
At the beginning of this case, the Juvenile Justice Board had granted bail to the minor accused on very easy conditions. He was asked to write an essay of only 300 words on road safety. After this decision, huge anger was seen in the entire country. After this, Pune Police asked the board to reconsider its decision. Then the minor was sent to observation home. Later the Bombay High Court ordered his release. However, 10 people including Vishal Agarwal, his wife Shivani Agarwal and doctors were sent to jail in the case of changing blood samples.
