New Delhi. The fear of LPG crisis in India amid rising military tensions in the Middle East and uncertainty over gas supply has brought about a major change in consumer behaviour. After increasing concern over the availability of LPG cylinders in many cities of the country, there has been a sudden surge in the demand for induction stoves.
According to media reports, sales of induction cooktops on Quick Commerce and e-commerce platforms have increased manifold compared to normal days. On some platforms, the situation became such that due to huge demand, many products became out of stock within a few hours. Huge discounts are being offered on induction cooktops on quick commerce platforms Blinkit, Swiggy, Instamart and Zepto. However, due to strong demand, most of the models available on these platforms were quickly sold out and only limited stock is left.
Data from e-commerce companies also confirms the rapid growth in demand. According to Amazon, in the last 24 hours the demand for induction cooktop has increased by about 20 times compared to normal days. Flipkart said that sales have increased almost three times in the last four-five days. Similarly, online grocery platform Big Basket also said that sales of induction cooktops have increased almost five times since Monday. In view of this increasing demand, the company has started preparations to increase its monthly sales estimate by three times.
Experts say that in metros where most of the families are dependent on LPG cylinders, due to the fear of possible shortage of gas, people are buying induction stoves as an alternative arrangement. Analysts believe that if uncertainty regarding LPG supply persists, the demand for alternative kitchen appliances like induction cooktops may increase further in the coming days.
