20 teams will participate in T20 World Cup
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has retained the participation of 20 teams, which was started in the year 2024. With the conclusion of the Super-8 stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup, 12 teams have confirmed their places. Teams will qualify on the basis of ranking
The teams of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Ireland have secured their places on the basis of ICC T20 rankings till the cut-off date of March 9, 2026. The fight for the remaining 8 places is still pending. Regional qualification tournaments for these will start from mid-2026. Sub-regional qualifiers will be held in regions such as the Americas (proposed in the Cayman Islands) and Europe, giving associate nations a chance to reach the main stage.
Format and challenges of T20 World Cup 2028

Group Stage – 20 teams will be included in this tournament and those teams will be divided into four groups of 5 each. Super-8 – The top 2 teams of each group will reach the Super-8 round. Knockout – The four best teams of Super-8 will face each other in the semi-finals and then two finals.
