
New Delhi. A big update has come out regarding the Toll Tax System across the country. Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that the current Toll Tax Collection System (Barrier) will be completely closed in a year. Toll tax will be paid through electronic system.
During Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Gadkari said that this new system has been implemented at about ten places. Within the next one year, it will be implemented on the National Highway Network of the entire country. With this there will be no need to stop at the toll booth. The Union Minister said that 4500 highway projects worth about Rs 10 lakh crore are going on in the country. With the implementation of digital toll system along with large amount of highway construction, the speed of road traffic and transportation in the country will further increase.
Toll system will be completely digital: Government
National Payments Corporation of India has developed National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) technology. Its objective is to make the toll system completely digital. In this, REID i.e. Radio Frequency Identification Device is installed on the windscreen of the vehicle. It automatically deducts the toll amount from the bank account linked to the driver without stopping while the vehicle passes the highway toll plaza. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday regarding air pollution in Delhi that the government is giving priority to alternative fuels. Gadkari also termed hydrogen as the fuel of the future.
The government on Thursday said that out of a total of 6,833 requests made under the scheme for cashless treatment of road accident victims, only 5,480 victims have been found eligible so far. Gadkari said, under the Scheme for Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims, 2025, cashless treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh will be provided to the victim in each accident case.
