Uttar Pradesh: In Prayagraj Magh Mela 2026 On the occasion of Basant Panchami, a huge crowd of devotees gathered on the banks of Sangam. Despite severe cold and dense fog, lakhs of devotees came to take holy bath at Triveni Sangam. According to religious belief, taking bath on the day of Basant Panchami is considered extremely auspicious, hence there was a steady stream of devotees at the ghats since morning.
Prayagraj District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said that the arrival of devotees had started from 12 o’clock in the night and bathing is going on smoothly at all the ghats. Along with the police, SDRF, NDRF and Civil Defense volunteers are also deployed for security arrangements, so that the devotees do not face any inconvenience. The administration says that the number of devotees may increase further after the fog clears.
This time on Basant Panchami, an auspicious combination of Gajakesari Yoga and Shivayoga is also taking place, due to which the faith of the devotees has become even stronger. According to the fair administration, about 55 to 60 lakh devotees are likely to take bath on the day of Basant Panchami, while by January 26, a total of more than 3.5 crore devotees are expected to reach the Sangam banks.
In view of the increasing number of devotees, the administration has made strict security arrangements. Three and a half kilometer long ghats have been built, nine pontoon bridges have been installed and more than 400 CCTV cameras have been installed, out of which 150 cameras use Artificial Intelligence technology. Apart from this, PAC, Paramilitary Force, UP ATS and STF have also been deployed.
