IPL 2026 Mini Auction: Like every year, this year also the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is taking place. The mini-auction of the 19th season of IPL took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Here the franchises bid heavily to fill 77 vacant slots with a total purse of Rs 237.55 crore. It has been seen in the auction that some players came in the auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore, while some are available at the minimum slab of Rs 30 lakh. In such a situation, let us know how the base price of any player in IPL is decided.
Who decides the base price of a player?
The base price of any player in the IPL auction is not determined by BCCI or any franchise. Instead, when players register to participate in the auction, they have to choose a suitable base price for themselves from the slabs already decided by the IPL.
Base price slab decided by IPL
Let us tell you that the players decide their base price themselves, but they have to do so within the fixed price bracket decided by the IPL Governing Council. Generally, work slabs like Rs 20 lakh or Rs 30 lakh have been made for uncapped players for IPL 2026. Whereas for capped international players, there is an option to choose a higher slab of up to Rs 2 crore.
Know why many players choose low base price?
It is often seen that many players choose a low base price. His making this choice is a strategic step. Because when a player comes in the auction at Rs 30 lakh or Rs 50 lakh, more franchises are ready to bid, due to which the competition increases and in the end the price becomes much higher than the base price. At the same time, there are many players who have full confidence in their demand. They deliberately keep their base price low, so that maximum interest can be generated in the auction.
Risk of choosing a high base price
There is a huge risk involved in this process. If a player sets his base price as high as Rs 1.5 crore or Rs 2 crore, franchises may hesitate to bid due to their limited budget (purse) or concerns about maintaining the right balance of the team. In such a situation, many times even qualified and talented players remain unsold in the auction.
