Team India has suffered a big blow just before the T20 World Cup 2026. An important player has been dropped from the 5-match T20 series against New Zealand, who has been a regular member of the T20 team since last year.
Team India has suffered a big setback before. Left-handed batsman Tilak Verma may be out of the 5-match T20 series against New Zealand to be played this month. This T20 series is very important for the preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026, but Asia Cup 2025 final hero and number 3 batsman Tilak Verma has suffered a stomach injury, due to which he is on the verge of being ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand. An official announcement regarding this may also be made soon.
According to the report of Indian Express, Tilak Verma was seen in pain before the match of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026. He is also a part of the Indian team, which is going to play a 5-match T20 series from January 21 before the T20 World Cup 2026. The first match will be played in Nagpur on 21 January. The Indian team will need a replacement for Tilak Verma for this series. However, it is believed that he may be fit for the mega event starting on February 7. Tilak was playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Rajkot when he felt stomach pain after breakfast on Wednesday morning. He consulted doctors at the Center of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru. An Indian board source confirmed, “Tilak suffered severe abdominal pain today (Wednesday). He was immediately taken to a hospital in Rajkot, where several scans were conducted and the reports were sent to the COE doctors. The doctors have advised him to undergo surgery, which will take him three to four weeks to recover. His chances of playing the entire T20I series against New Zealand seem unlikely.”
The Indian team management will probably be more concerned about his availability in the T20 World Cup 2026, starting on February 7. India’s first match is against USA on the opening day of the tournament itself. It is being told that testicular torsion has been confirmed in the investigation, for which surgery has also been done and now his condition is stable. However, further information regarding his recovery and return will be given officially.
