The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Himachal on Tuesday. The mercury has crossed the 40 degree mark in Akola, Maharashtra and Pilani-Barmer, Rajasthan. The department has predicted rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bengal, Bihar, Sikkim, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. The Meteorological Department says that a new Western Disturbance will bring rain in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The temperature of Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh was 38.6 degrees. The day temperature in New Delhi also reached 35.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Kashmir ranged between 9.4 to 10.7 degrees Celsius. Light snowfall may occur in some higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Anantnag from March 10-12.

Heat and heatwave in March
According to the Meteorological Department, these days hot winds are coming from the desert areas of Rajasthan. The effect of which is visible in the plain states. The wind direction has now changed from north-east to west and north-west. At the same time, there is very little humidity in the air. Due to this, the temperature will increase further in the coming days. This can also increase the intensity of sunlight.

When is it considered a heatwave?
According to the Meteorological Department, a heatwave is considered when the temperature in the plains reaches 40 degrees or more. If the temperature is recorded 4 to 6 degrees more than the normal temperature. In such a situation, people’s health can also be affected and the risk of heat stroke increases.
